Record option locking up and have to kill the application

The record seems to be choking on our application. I have to kill the process for recording and our application. I have tried writing a manual script but the process doesn't seem to find the menu options and certain fields within our app. We need to be able to use a play and record option. Any suggestions? I'm currently evaluating a trial version

  • Hi Elizabeth,

I'm sorry to hear you're running into problems using the Tellurium extension. We are currently working on a fix that should make the extension work more smoothly on more websites and help prevent it from freezing.

As far as manually scripting a test goes, I'd be happy to help you if I can. I'll send you a direct email.

Thanks for your question and your patience!

    Best,

  • Hi Elizabeth,

I wanted to let you know that we just released an updated version of the Tellurium extension that includes a fix for the issue you noticed. The newest version is 1.4 and should update for you automatically within a few hours.

If you'd like to update your Tellurium extension manually, follow these steps:
    1. Open Chrome
    2. Go to chrome://extensions/
    3. Check the "Developer mode" checkbox
    4. Click the "Update extensions now" button that appears

    Best,
    Cullyn

    Hi Katy,

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with the extension. Version 1.4 is the most recent version available.

The short explanation is likely that it's a problem of too much Javascript between your website and the Tellurium extension. The extension uses Javascript, so if the site you're trying to record on is already Javascript-heavy, the available resources for the browser are limited, which may cause the extension or your page to freeze.

If you'd like to use the extension to create tests anyway, my suggestion would be to try using the inspector rather than the recorder. With the element inspector, you can identify elements on your page and select commands from the list of suggestions to add to your test. And of course, you can also script your tests in the Tellurium app yourself using our command library.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if I can answer any further questions for you.

  • We have been using your product for several months and even when we use the inspector the browser will freeze up. This is very annoying when you have half the page done and it freezes. You can't copy what you have done or nothing.

Please when will there be a fix for this. You can see there is nothing in the script and it is frooze.

    Hi Melinda,

I apologize that you're running into this problem as well. I understand your frustration. We are aware of the problem and do intend to address it.

In the meantime, if you're using the extension's inspector because you're having trouble identifying elements to be used in your tests, please let me know, and I'd be more than happy to take a look and see if I can help in any way.

    Thank you for your patience.

    Best,

  • Just adding a comment that I have been using the inspector as the workaround and it also freezes.

My work around method is to have one window open in the web app where I am writing a test and another tab where I use the extension to inspect elements on the screen. Then I grab the element name (and usually rename it) to paste into my other tab where I am writing the test.

But as I mentioned, even the inspector will freeze up or it will not be able to identify elements and I have to constantly close the tab and start over.
